Glue Works on Cuneiform records

We are thrilled to announce that our next album Glue Works will be released in May on the legendary American label Cuneiform records, just in good time before our US debut at NEARFest. The list of previous Cuneiform releases is too extensive to show here but let us tell you that we will definitely be in good company with other bands/artists such as Univers Zero, Richard Pinhas & Robert Wyatt just to name a few.
A big push forward for the band and indeed something to live up to. 2011!
We have moved
Just a heads-up that the website once again is located directly at www.gostaberlingssaga.se and not at /gbs2 as before. The RSS feed URL has also changed to http://feeds.feedburner.com/gostaberlingssaga so please update your bookmarks.
Rebirth of the blog

Not sure if we have any frequent readers left since we haven’t posted anything since May (were mostly on facebook nowadays actually) but as we currently are spending our last days of recording, we thought it would be a good idea to give you unrestricted insight in the whole process while we still remember most of it. During the next few weeks, we will try to cover everything from planning to recording, artwork, mixing, mastering and whatnot. Feel free to ask questions if you have any and we will do our best to answer them.
Background
Based on our experience, we like to write songs, we love recording them and we just can’t wait to play them live. However, we rarely get any of these parts done except for perhaps the last one. We actually have so many great themes and riffs that we still haven’t used that we now are recording material we wrote 5 years ago, which is great in one way since we obviously have stuff for at almost two more albums without needing to write new songs.
It is rather unclear why this is, but we have had problems with combining creativity and a reasonable level of quality, almost like we are afraid of recording songs that we have not been working on for less than a year. If you want to be completely satisfied with what you do, that is probably good but if you want to reduce pressure that’s not the way to do it.
So, after the release of Tid är ljud we planned on releasing a new album the year after. Instead it took us about three years. After the release of Detta har hänt we had the same plan as before and apparently it has now taken us two years to record a new one. What triggered this recording was the upcoming appearance at Nearfest as we felt the need of having something new to present. It’s not that fun to promote a two year old album you know… So with June 2011 in mind we decided to start working immediately. Unlike the previous two albums that were produced and partly mixed by ourselves, we came to the conclusion that bringing in extra human capacity equals speed and therefore we asked Mattias Olsson of Roth Händle to help us out.
We instantly started working on one of the songs in the end of May and life was good. And then there was summer. And vacations. And silence. Basically everything was like it usually is – an increasingly amount of stress building up because nothing is happening. So not until we were sitting in our van on our way to the show in Borås in late October we made the plan for how to get things to happen.
The next phase was planning and that is what the next blog post will be about. To be continued…

PS. For those who don’t speak Italian we can also mention that DHH was one of the finalists for the Italian Prog Awards’ prize for Best Foreign Album. In the end, the prize went to Kotebel for their album “Ouroboros”. Congratulations!
